Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") cover your use of bestrestoration.org (the "Site"). The Site is run by Dorothy, Inc. ("Dorothy", "we", "us"). By using the Site or submitting any form on it, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

What this site is, and what it isn't

Best Restoration is a free directory of property damage restoration companies and a free matching service that connects property owners with those companies.

  • We are not a restoration company. We don't inspect damage, perform any work, prepare estimates or deal with your insurance company.
  • We are not an insurance company, a law firm or a lawyer. Nothing on the Site is legal, insurance or financial advice. Whether your insurance covers a loss depends on your policy and your insurer.
  • A listing is not an endorsement. Company listings come from each company's own published information, such as its website, and from official state license records where a state licenses this work. We work to keep listings accurate, but information changes and we can't guarantee that every detail is complete or current. Always confirm a company's licenses, insurance and credentials before you sign anything.

Getting matched: your permission to share your information

When you submit our matching form (the "Get help now" or "Request help" form), you ask us to connect you with a restoration company, and you give us permission to do the following.

  1. Share your request with restoration companies. We may share the information you submit with up to five restoration companies that serve the property's area. If you asked for a specific company from its listing, that company is one of them. Shared information includes your name, phone number, email, property location, details about the damage and any notes you add.
  2. Let those companies contact you. The companies we share your request with may call, text or email you about your request at the phone number and email you gave us. They may use automated technology to do so. This applies even if your number is on a federal, state or company Do Not Call list.
  3. Contact you ourselves about your request, for example to confirm details or to let you know which company will reach out.

Your permission is not a condition of buying anything, and you never have to hire a company. Message and data rates may apply to texts. You can opt out of texts at any time by replying STOP, and you can ask a company to stop contacting you at any time. To withdraw your request or opt out of further contact from us, email us at the address below. Opting out stops future sharing and contact from us. It can't undo information we already shared with a company, but you can ask that company directly to delete it.

By submitting the form, you confirm that the information is accurate, that the phone number and email are yours, and that you own the property or are authorized to act for its owner.

In an emergency that puts anyone at risk, such as a gas leak, electrical hazards or structural damage, leave the property and call 911 or your utility first. Our matching service is not an emergency service.

What it costs

Best Restoration is completely free. We don't charge property owners or companies anything. There are no fees for using the directory, getting matched, being listed or receiving requests, and no company pays us to be matched with you.

If you hire a restoration company, it charges its own price for the work, set by your agreement with it. Your insurance may pay some or all of it, depending on your policy.

Your relationship with a company

If you hire a company, your contract is between you and that company. Dorothy is not a party to it and is not responsible for the company's advice, work, prices or conduct. Read any contract or work authorization carefully before you sign, including how payment works if your insurance doesn't cover the job.

If you have a problem with a company, please tell us, so we can review its listing and whether we keep matching people with it.

For restoration companies

  • Listings. We list companies using information they publish, such as their website, and official state license records where they exist. License details always come from official records. A company can ask us to correct or add details, or to remove its listing, through our claim your listing page. We verify the person asking before we change anything.
  • Receiving requests. We share requests only with companies that have agreed to receive them. A company that receives a request must follow all laws that apply to its work and to contacting and contracting with property owners, hold any license its state requires, use the information only to respond to that request, and never sell or pass it to anyone else. We may stop sharing requests with any company at any time.
  • Free for companies. We don't charge companies for listings or for the requests we send them.

Using the site fairly

Please don't submit false information or a request on someone else's behalf without their permission, impersonate a company, copy or scrape the directory in bulk, interfere with the Site's security or operation, or use the Site for anything unlawful. We may block access or ignore requests that break these rules.

Your privacy

We collect the information you submit in our forms and basic technical data such as your IP address and browser type, which we use to prevent spam and to keep a record of your permission. We use your information to process your request, run and improve the Site, and meet legal obligations. We share it with the companies matched to your request, as described above, and with service providers that help us run the Site, such as our hosting, email and messaging providers, who may use it only to provide those services. We may also share it when the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information. Our Privacy Policy gives the full details, including your choices about your data.

Google ratings and reviews

Company pages may show ratings and reviews from Google Maps. They load directly from Google when you view the page, and we don't write, edit or store them. By using these features, you agree to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service ↗ and Google's Privacy Policy ↗, which also apply to that content.

Disclaimers and limits on liability

The Site and its information are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise any outcome, response time or insurance payment, and we are not responsible for what any company does or doesn't do.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Dorothy will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, property damage or lost insurance payments, arising from your use of the Site or any company you find through it. Our total liability for any claim about the Site is limited to one hundred US dollars ($100). Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. The version in effect when you submit a request applies to that request.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
